Here's What the International Press Has to Say...
about PH101's "Love Songs from Area 51"
From Germany...
PH101-
Love Songs From Area 51
When this critic was asked for his comments about this CD, at
first I thought it was the most memorable record I ever heard.
After I listened to it several times, I was convinced it was as
described "a rare mix from Bombast and Schrullingkeit"
, from which it would be natural to acquire such a recording.
Now, regarding progressive
rock, this record arrives only at its outer edges, but there are
several other considerations that make it an interesting prospect:
A really screwed-up text about the aliens, singing Christmas songs,
and the kidnapping of a woman (Area 51), or the absolutely dramatic
dreams with true black humor (Ebola Woman). As other things go,
it rocks pretty well in some spots.
PH101 musically plays their own opinions, a turned-on mix of pop
rock and jazz, musical elements of classical symphony as well
as Zappaesque moments and a Latin touch to very listenable solid
parts of the music.
As a crowning achievement, there is also surf rock (Surf N Buddha) which is of a different kind. A few things worth listening to Soli and Gitarre [most likely this means the lead singing and guitar] and saxophone, which gives this music its edge. As far as the latest comparable bands are concerned (Talking Heads and the Tubes), the strength from "Love Songs from Area 51" lies, without a doubt, in the musical packaging, which sometimes is funk or rock and is constantly pushed forward. As I said before, in regards to progressive rock, this CD is only on its outer most edges, but it earns PH101 points for originality for unusual composition, which stands on its own.

...and from Brazil:
"The excellent cd's of PH101 are here. The music is beautiful (with Heart and Electric Light Orchestra's influences). Excellent female voices and crazy keys/ electric guitars. The theme of the third cd (the UFOs and the aliens of the Area 51) is great. We love it. We will do a great radio diffusion here immediately ."
