Rick Lewis

Keyboards, Lead & Background Vocals, Production and Creative Confusion

"Born in a log cabin alongside the New Jersey Turnpike, Rick Lewis worked hard to further his music education, writing his first symphony in charcoal on the back of an old shovel in the soft firelight of his family's hearth.  Although not taken seriously in his own lifetime, Mr. Lewis labors on, convinced that when the Mothership arrives, all of you puny earthlings will pay dearly for your transgressions...."

Some people still believe this old legend, but we know for certain that it's only partially true. Documents have recently come to light that reveal much about Rick's early life.

Brought up in the great New Jersey garage-band tradition of the late '60s and early '70s, Rick's early forays into public performance included band associations with Dave LaRue (of Dixie Dregs and Steve Morse Band fame), and with Jon Bon Jovi (of big hair and B-Movie fame).  He graduated from the University of California at Santa Barbara with a degree in Music Theory/Composition in 1977. In 1979, he moved to Los Angeles, where he produced demos for other artists, did occasional session work, performed regularly with the fusion band Simplexity, and produced the first demos of his own work, co-produced by Bill Bonk (of LA session and side-man fame).

Moving back to New Jersey in 1981, Rick continued writing, recording and performing music with bands that dealt mainly with original songwriter material, including the Jim Davison Band (a frequent performer at Clarence Clemmons' Big Man's West club in Red Bank, NJ), and with No Exit, where two of Rick's songs were actually taken seriously and included in their regular set.  In 1991, Rick, along with drummer Tom Tricario, formed PH101 as a songwriter-demo project.

Currently working for Iron Mountain Records Management as a Business Analyst for their IT/Development group, Rick has been the central force behind PH101 since its inception. He continues to write for and produce other bands, and does occasional session work. He is also the founder and CEO of Saturday's Child Music, Inc., a small, but feisty record label and multi-media empire. However, PH101 remains Rick's main vehicle, and is the forum for the best of his creative efforts.

Rick is a Libra/Scorpio cusp, and his hobbies include body surfing, LZ golf, cooking, and watching unhealthy amounts of television, mostly documentaries.
